As an Operating Partner, Ron supports Element’s investment activities in the areas of energy management, energy services, power generation, and power infrastructure.

From 2001 to 2008, Ron held senior positions at Southern Company, one of the largest generators of power in North America. At Southern, Ron served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Company Gas, a natural gas retailer in deregulated markets; President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Company Energy Solutions, a provider of a broad range of energy-related services to commercial, industrial, and governmental customers; and President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Management Development, a subsidiary formed to develop new products and services. Ron also led Southern’s effort to commercialize its proprietary coal gasification technology.

Prior to joining Southern Company, Ron held a variety of positions at Enron Energy Services. He spent two years based in London, where he established Enron’s European retail energy business. In the early-mid 1990s, Ron worked as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton (now Booz & Co), serving energy clients worldwide on strategy and operations. Prior to attending business school, Ron worked as a project geologist at Alton Geoscience, a privately held firm specializing in the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater.

Ron holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, a Master of Science in geology and geochemistry from UCLA, and a Bachelors degree in geology from Colgate University. He was a student research fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Ron serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for the Advancement of Marketing and Social Science at Clemson University.
