Todd Peterson

Operating Partner

Todd joined Element as an Operating Partner in 2007 with more than 10 years of industry experience in advanced manufacturing processes, and clean energy.

Todd is co-founder of Foster Chamberlain LLC, a firm that commercializes advanced technologies spun out of large corporations and research labs. The firm has worked with more than 20% of the Dow Jones Industrials on some of the world’s most disruptive technologies, receiving such awards as Frost & Sullivan’s Product Innovation of the Year, Industry Week’s Technology of the Year, Automotive News’ PACE Award, and Best of NeoCon – Gold Award. Example technologies include “artificial muscle,” an electro-active polymer technology spun out of SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute), and “deformation resistance welding,” a low-cost, energy-efficient welding technology spun out of automotive company Delphi Corporation.

In his capacity at Foster Chamberlain, Todd has held C-level management positions at ventures spun out of several companies, including Boeing and Conectiv Energy. He has led negotiations on dozens of transactions involving capital-raising, licensing, joint development, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Most recently, he negotiated the sale of two businesses he helped incubate inside automotive company Dana Corporation – one involving hybrid-vehicle technology, which was sold to Robert Bosch GmbH, and one involving microwave-plasma processing technology, which was sold to BTU International (NASDAQ: BTUI).

Todd serves on the corporate advisory boards of NanoPack, a manufacturer of barrier coatings and films using nano-materials, and InstaMed Communications, a healthcare technology company.

Before founding Foster Chamberlain, Todd worked in the energy and chemicals practice of strategy consulting firm Booz|Allen|Hamilton. Prior to that, he held various finance positions in the US and UK for Enron Corporation, including being a founding member of the company’s natural gas M&A group and of its European capital and trading operations.

Todd holds BS and MBA degrees from The Wharton School, where he was awarded a Fellowship from Ford Motor Company.
